The Fold(s) | Joana Patrão's research-driven practice
In her work, Joana Patrão is taking up the role of a mediator creating a dialogue between the human and non human using a transdisciplinary and eco-aesthetical approach. Nature transgresses from its traditional position as a passive object of art and becomes an agent in the creative process. Joana Patrão listens and observes her surroundings closely, contributing to formulating alternative ways of thinking about art practices and the environment. She mostly works with natural materials such as salt, rocks, sap or water. In her previous work, she has been drawn to the sea and its landscape as an immersion and voyage with all its ambiguities offering poetic potential.
